The Joy of a Dwarf Iris

The Joy of a Dwarf Iris

I was introduced to Michigan's state wildflower, the dwarf lake iris (Iris lacustris) near the shores of Lake Michigan at Wilderness State Park in northern Emmet County and instantly fell in love with its beauty. Several years ago, I was delighted to see an offering of dwarf iris bulbs in an elementary school fundraiser. Each spring since, this spunky beauty pushes its way through the snow to welcome spring!

The mix of rain, snow, flowers and grasses were the inspiration behind April's Fairy of the Month. There's even a hint of snow in the pattern on the fairy wings. I hope this inspires you to explore your favorite places and discover some new ones, too.
